I feel compelled to note that the news media is not -- not -- a haven of treason and desire to see the U.S. lose any war or conflict against any foreign enemy. Our job is to report. Are we perfect? No. But neither is the military as anyone who has served in it will tell you.

Robert makes the arguments that are often made by political leaders when they are in trouble, and are angry that their messes are coming out in the news media. The easiest thing to do in such a case is to blame the messenger. By the way, a goodly number of journalists have died covering the war in Iraq. Yes, some stay in the Green Zone, but others go out with U.S. troops and see what they're up against every day on the streets of a country that is tearing itself apart. It's not pretty, and neither is reality in war.

I watched President Bush's speech, and noticed that while he kneeled at the altar of Iraqi democracy -- commending them for voting -- he had not a single positive thing to say about the fact that we Americans had an election recently, and we made some choices, too. He may not like those choices, but that's too bad. It's our country, not his, and not Dick Cheney's or Halliburton's.

Calling people traitors may be a nice way to establish your own patriotism, but it's dirty pool, and un-American.

Vincent F. Safuto signing off.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion Vincent. But the facts are solid. The news media provides a very narrow vision of what is happening in Iraq. And indeed they are rooting for failure. Why else would they hire terrorists and then only report the worst of the news? I love it when they say, "The AP reports?" Who in the AP? Probably another photoshop expert.

You know how many murders happen in the U.S. everyday? Should police forces in the cities with the worst crime get off the streets and cede to the criminals?

In any case. I'm glad this forum provides a nice sounding board for your views. After all, most journalists can't have their own blogs for fear of their publishers firing them for having a personal opinion.
