Podzinger Video Search

Podzinger is a podcast search engine that has focused soley on searching audio podcasts since last summer. Well that's changed now that they've gone live with a video podcast
search feature on their website.

I headed over and keyed in a search for "Carrett", the name of a performer who appeared in a recent video podcast I produced. Voila! There was the correct video with a small player on the left side along with info about my site and podcast.

There's a catch here though. It appears that the word "Carrett" was picked up from the show notes and not the audio on the video. The revolution in PodZinger's technology is that it's supposed to pick up words from the audio. So I tried a second search for the word "gallery" since it was a term we used frequently in the video. Bam! We were the sixth search result.

Clicking on the word gallery started the video right at the point where we said the word gallery for the first time. Very nice. Other searches for words didn't fare so well. But I'm sure they'll be tweaking the service to get more accurate as time goes on.

Super Colossal Podcast

One of my favorite modern guitar players, Joe Satriani has a podcast for his new album titled Super Colossal. The podcast comes in audio and video formats and features Joe giving a little snippet of information about each song. Very nice use of the medium.

Google Video RSS

Google Video has done it again. They've introduced RSS feeds for uploaded videos in an under the radar announcement on Yahoo! Groups. Right now you can't have a personal RSS feed, but if you make sure that you put consistent titles on your uploads, then you should be able to pubish your Google videos using this feature. Here's an example that works for my Flow Video podcast series. No RSS 2.0 (or podcast) enclosures yet, but you could achieve this by running the feed through FeedBurner. I have no doubt that this will soon lead to a full supported video podcast solution.

PodServing It Up

I've been checking out some of the podcasting tools offered by a relatively new entrant in the podcast management space called PodServe. PodServe allows you to create a podcast channel and provides free file hosting. I've been trying it out and have created a channel called Espresso to test it out.

The process is very simple. There aren't a lot of choices which makes this an ideal option for someone who is a beginner. Inclusion in major directories like iTunes and Odeo is achieved by selecting a check box. The site is seriously AJAXified so the interface is very slick and usable. Looks like stats are pretty basic for the moment, simply showing the number of subscribers to each podcast.

This project is one piece of a larger initiative called Big In Japan. Big In Japan offers (or plans to offer) a variety of RSS/Podcast/Web 2.0 related services via the browser. This looks promising so Ill be monitoring the progress of these tools.

Feedburner Has Shiny New Stats

Feedburner has updated their basic and pro stats packages. Things look a bit different but all the information I like is still there. I'll be tooling around and taking a closer look over the next few days.
